Simple solution to a complex problem?

It all sounds so easy.
A simple solution to a complex problem. Or rather two very complex problems.

End of 2015 coincides with the conference of Paris on climate change.
Everybody knows what to do :

Cut the oil !

  • Develop alternative fuel
  • Increase research on “clean “ energies
  • Use natural and abundant energies such as…
  • The sun – the old geezer is not going away for the next billion years !
  • The wind, the earth will not stop spinning either for a while
  • The tides – the moon does not seem to stop rotating either
  • Geothermal energy, etc.
  • Hydrogen is the most abundant element in the universe… not shortage here.

We all know this.

THEY, our leaders, know it too !

The one thing we should not keep on doing is to use the oil as fuel. Sophisticated polymers would be much more lucrative anyway.
Ah… here it is : easy money. Digging in the sand for oil is sooooo easy.
Or so it used to be. But digging at the bottom of the ocean is not so easy. And extracting oil or gas from rock or Albertan goo is not at all cheap or easy.

So, if it is money we are after, let’s not put our head in the sands of Alberta and let’s think. For once.
In this information age the one thing more precious than everything else is KNOWLEDGE. THIS is worth so much more. Let’s sell expertise. Not oil.

Let’s use free natural energy and sell the knowledge on how to use it.

Money is a theoretical construct anyway. It has no real value if the rest of the world dies.
…. all the money in the world will not help survivors of a potential environmental catastrophe.
But Knowledge… ah, the all-knowing Forest guide or the Sherpa from the Himalayas has a much better chance.
Knowledge then.

The other problem : ISIS. The Islamic State of Irak and Syria.
This is a prime example of Knowledge being ABSENT from the mind of too many indoctrinated victims. How can such a primitive conception of society takes roots AND plan invasion of so many areas throughout the planet ? Money.
Their activities are clearly funded by someone.
Someone with similar ideology with a lot a money,
Without naming anyone and using logic and a basic knowledge of geography and world politics one can point to a simple solution :

Cut the oil !

  • Develop alternative fuel
  • Increase research on “clean“ energies
  • Use natural and abundant energies such as
  • The sun -the old geezer is not going away for the next billion years !

(Yep. Copy and paste from the previous section… hint, hint…)

The world has a unique opportunity to solve two problems at once.

We all know this.

THEY, our leaders, know it too !

But then,
For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong.
H. L. Mencken

I know. I know.
But it all seems too obvious.
If you remove the human ego and hubris. Ah well…..

Save Snowden states that innovation occurs when three components are present :

PRESSURE :

ISIS and the smog index in Beijing qualify as pressure.

HUNGER

The whole world is eagerly demanding alternatives to oil for our cars. Electric cars such as TESLA and the Volt are increasingly popular. Not only are they fuel efficient, they are also a wonder to drive.

PARADIGM SHIFT

Ah…. this one hurts.
We need to change the way we see the world and the balance of power.
Smart phones around the world provided us with an unadulterated view of the planet and its inhabitants. This is new in the history of humanity. Knowledge WAS power when it was filtered and kept opaque by the governing class. Not anymore. Knowledge is still power but is it more evenly distributed thanks to billions of cell phones and social network users.

The technology is there. Solutions already exist.

And there is sooooo much money, good money, to be collected, ethically, from the green knowledge and economy.
Paradigms are slowly shifting.
The ultimate paradigm might to be reminded that, after all, the dollar bill is green too.
Another kind of green.
